    The notion that art could be a practice of living inquiry led Dr. Barney to seek and obtain a PhD in Curriculum Studies with an emphasis on Art Education from the University of British Columbia, where he taught communications, classroom methods, principles of teaching, and supervised student teachers. Barney has won many regional and national awards for his teaching and scholarship over his career.

  • Sisc Johnson

    Assistant Director of Operations and Business, School of Art, CVPA

    Sisc Johnson joined the staff of the School of Art in 2023 as the Assistant Director of Operations and Business. Sisc graduated from George Mason University with a BFA in Photography.
  • Kate Keeney

    Advisor, School of Art, CVPA

    Kate Keeney is an advisor at the George Mason University School of Art. They are a graduate of George Mason’s MFA in Creative Writing with a focus in Poetry and their poems have been published in Puerto Del Sol, deComp, Tishman Review, and Roanoke Review, among others. While a Mason student, she served as part of the editorial staff for Phoebe and So to Speak.

    Britney Ordonez Lavine is the new Photo Lab Manager at the School of Art Photography department at George Mason University College of Visual and Performing Arts.

    Hunter Muirheid received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in graphic design from George Mason University, Fairfax in 2024. He posts for the School of Art socials and also works on prints, web updates, and the newsletter.

    Alix Nyden is an alumna of George Mason University, having earned a Bachelor’s in Independent Studies through the School of Integrative Studies, with concentrations in Writing, Art, and Game Design. Alix currently works at the School of Art Print shop located on the first floor of the Art and Design building,

    Robert Yi was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States at the age of four. He received his MFA from American University, graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Foreign Affairs and the Corcoran College of Art & Design with a BFA.
