My scholarships have changed my life completely. I cannot stress enough how daunting tuition is. Knowing that I am privileged to make art every day at an institution that embraces my passion is empowering.—Lauren Day, BFA Graphic Design, 2021

"I couldn’t choose just any university because, alone, I could not afford school. I did, however, always have a vision for myself. I have always wanted to work in D.C. as a graphic designer; making powerful work for organizations that want to make a difference. For a long time, I was not in school due to financial limitations. During my hiatus I continued creating art and doing commission work. I never let my art die. These works became the portfolio I would inevitably submit to George Mason University.... I was accepted into their BFA program and granted a tremendous award that literally made my dream plausible. I chose George Mason because their location is just outside of D.C., their art program is extensive...and most importantly, because George Mason believed in me."

The prints were made from laser cut blocks that represented each of the CVPA academic units as an emoji. Guests were able to choose which area they wanted to print and then pull the print themselves.

"I chose Mason because of its Art Education program and the quality of the schools in the area. After being accepted into UVA, I was torn between which school to pick, but ultimately decided that participating in Mason’s art program, especially after I was given a 4-year scholarship, was too great of an offer to turn down. I would not be able to afford school if I had not received scholarships.... Without the generosity from Mason and its donors, I would not be able to afford to fulfill my dreams."
