Biography

Ana Farnham is a multimedia designer and educator with a broad range of specialties within the design world. She believes in multi-modal design. Her research focuses on experiential graphic design.

She earned her M.F.A. in Graphic Design at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where she explored what it feels like to have different learning styles through design. Prior to her work at MICA, Ana completed a B.F.A. in Graphic Design and a B.S. in Advertising at Boston University.

At MICA, Ana held teaching internships in Graphic Design II (HTML/CSS and Web Design), Signs Exhibits Spaces, Immersive Experience Lab, and Typography II. Before coming to GMU she was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at James Madison University where she taught: Web Design, Interactive Media (AR, VR, UI, Motion), Typography I, Digital Media Design I, and Digital Media Design II (UX, HTLM, CSS, Motion).

Ana began her career as a professional designer in the DC area. She worked at the American Health Lawyers Association, designing and distributing educational materials. She then worked for Top Shelf Design, a small print and web design firm. From there she moved on to HealyKohler Design, a museum exhibition design firm. 

Along with teaching, Ana has an active freelance design practice. She has worked with clients such as Adobe, Intel, the Smithsonian, the National Park Service, the World Bank, and more. She has won 30+ design awards throughout her career as a designer. She is actively involved in AIGA and SEGD.
