Levee Contemporary is pleased to present It’ll Do Till It Gets Here... an exhibition featuring new paintings and sculpture works by artist Justin Plakas. This collection of vibrant and playful works serves as a reflection on the interconnected themes of loss, love, the transformative journey of new parenthood, and the power of memory.

About the artist:

Justin Plakas is an artist and designer whose work spans photography, time-based media, performance, and painting and drawing. His artistic research is currently focused on comedy, the body, and athletic competition. In addition to his personal studio practice and research, he has worked commercially in film production and photography, advertising, and design.

He has an extensive exhibition record including The National Gallery (DC), Ortega Y Gasset Projects (NYC), and Untitled Fair at Miami Beach. He has screened work at festivals such as Cucalorus and the Chicago Underground Film Festival. Plakas was an artist in residence at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, The Hub Culture Arts Initiative, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.

He has received a Maryland State Individual Artist Award for Excellence in Photography. Justin’s work has been featured in The Washington Post, Bat City Review, Garden and Gun, Washington City Paper, Bmore Art, The Stranger, and Juxtapoz.

He lives in Hyattsville, Maryland and is an Assistant professor of Art and Film and Video Studies at George Mason University.
